Moncton Culture
Even though the city of Moncton isn’t that large, the cultural opportunities are not lacking here and you are able to watch a play, see a ballet show or visit one of the museums.
If theater is your thing, the Capitol Theatre is where you should go. It’s a vaudeville house built in the style of the 1920’s, which has 800 seats and it can be found on the Main Street. This is where most culture events take place in Moncton and you will be able to enjoy both theatre plays and other types of arts, including the events of the Symphony Orchestra of New Brunswick and those from the Atlantic Ballet Theatre. There is another building, Empress Theatre, located nearby, which is where recitals and smaller performances take place.
Atlantic Ballet Theatre is based in the city of Moncton and they tour Atlantic Canada mostly, though sometimes they also travel at a national level or outside the country for performances.
If you’re a fan of the French language and the culture behind it, then Theatre l’Escaouette might be your thing, since it has a Francophone focus. This is a company which offers live theatre and it has its own auditorium where all this takes place.
If you prefer the Anglophone culture, then the Live Bait Theatre might be better for you and you can find it in Sackville, a town near Moncton, which has a university as well.
In Moncton’s metro area you will also find private music and dance academies. In this city is also where you will find the national headquarters of CPA (Canadian Poetry Association). It might also be worth checking out the Aberdeen Culture Centre, found in the same city.
The city of Moncton has two major museums which are worth visiting. These are the Moncton University Acadian Museum and the Moncton Museum.
